How to Repair Burn Marks in Carpet

High-quality carpet is a wise investment that can last many years if properly maintained. Frequent vacuuming, regular steam cleaning and immediate attention to accidents and spills can keep your carpet looking great for a long time. But even under the best of circumstances mishaps happen, and while most new carpets have stain repellents built into the fibers, how do you repair a burn mark?

For Minor Burns

\"Large Wall Art\"

A pair of sharp scissors may be all you need to repair a small burn mark, say from a dropped cigarette or hot match. Get down on your hands and knees and separate the burnt fibers, cutting away one burned strand at a time. This method works best on sculptured carpets, since the fibers are already of various lengths, but even on plush carpets, if the area that you are cutting away is not very large, you can blend in the cut strands with your fingers by brushing and blending the cut strands with the longer ones. However, if the area is too large for this method, you'll need to gather the supplies listed below and patch the damaged area.

How to Repair Burn Marks in Carpet

Carpet Repair Supplies

To repair larger areas of burned carpet, you will need a sharp utility knife or a circular cutting tool designed for removing small areas of damaged carpet. In addition, you'll need double-sided carpet tape and seam adhesive, as well as a heavy-duty scissors and a fine-tip black marker. You are going to need a remnant that is big enough to replace the damaged section of carpet. If you don't have a remnant you'll need to cut a section out of a closet or other inconspicuous area. If the carpet appears dirty compared to the remnant, steam clean the area first so that the repair will be less noticeable.

Repair Procedure

1. Before doing any cutting at all, align your remnant so that its nap lies in the same direction as the nap of the carpet on the floor. If the nap does not match, your repair will be very noticeable.

2. Use your cutting tool or utility knife to cut away the burned section of carpet, taking care not to cut into the padding underneath. Place the damaged cut out on top of your remnant, aligning the nap. Then, without realigning the direction of either piece of carpet, place the damaged piece underneath your remnant. Flip both pieces over simultaneously and use the marker to trace the shape of the damaged piece on the back of the remnant.

3. Use your cutting tool to cut out the piece of remnant along the marked line. Check the size and nap alignment of the remnant patch by holding it over the cut section of carpet.

4. Apply a small amount of seam adhesive along the rim of the hole that was cut in the carpet to keep the fibers from unraveling. Apply double-sided carpet tape to the back of your patch and add a small amount of seam adhesive along the edges of the patch.

5. Set the patch into place and press down firmly. Set a stack of books or a flat heavy object on top of the patch until the adhesive dries completely; refer to the label for drying times. After it's dry, use your fingers to blend the fibers around the seam of your patch. Wait at least 24 hours before vacuuming.

Is Graffiti Art?

You can travel almost anywhere in the world, and you will probably see graffiti. Although graffiti art is usually more common in big cities, the reality is that it can occur in almost any community, big or small.

The problem with graffiti art is the question of whether it's really art, or just plain vandalism. This isn't always an easy question to answer, simply because there are so many different types of graffiti. Some is simply a monochrome collection of letters, known as a tag, with little artistic merit. Because it's quick to produce and small, it is one of the most widespread and prevalent forms of graffiti.

Art

Although tagging is the most common type of graffiti, there are bigger, more accomplished examples that appear on larger spaces, such as walls. These are often multicolored and complex in design, and so start to push the boundary of whether they should really be defined as graffiti art.

Is Graffiti Art?

If it wasn't for the fact that most graffiti is placed on private property without the owner's permission, then it might be more recognized as a legitimate form of art. Most graffiti art, however, is only an annoyance to the property owner, who is more likely to paint over it or remove it than applaud its artistic merit.

Many solutions have been put into practice around the world, with varying degrees of success. Paints have been developed that basically cause graffiti paint to dissolve when applied, or else make it quick and easy to remove. Community groups and government departments coordinate graffiti removal teams.

In some places you can't buy spray paint unless you're over 18. Cans of spray paint are locked away in display cases. In a nearby area the local council employs someone to go around and repaint any fences defaced by graffiti. A friend of mine has had his fence repainted 7 times at least, and it took him a while to find out why it was happening! Certainly the amount of graffiti in my local area has dropped substantially in the last year or two, so it appears these methods are working to a great extent.

But is removing the graffiti doing a disservice to the artistic community? Maybe if some of the people behind the graffiti art were taken in hand and trained, they could use their artistic skills in more productive ways. It hardly makes sense to encourage these artists to deface public property, and so commit a crime. But perhaps there are other ways to cooperate with the graffiti artists rather than just opposing them. Graffiti artists can create sanctioned murals for private property owners and get paid for it.

Maybe we need to start at a very basic level, and find a way to encourage the creation of graffiti art on paper or canvas, rather than walls. After all, who would remember Monet or Picasso if they'd created their masterpieces on walls, only to have them painted over the next day? Finding a solution to such a complex situation is never going to be easy, but as more graffiti art is being recognized in galleries around the world, we do need to try.

Outdoor Wall Art - Bring the Gallery Outside

Most of us use the words art and paintings interchangeably. When we thing about these creations, usually what comes to mind is of gallery's or where we can place these paintings inside our homes. For the outdoor areas what comes to mind is of sculptures or plaques. Outdoor wall art offers the same opportunities for you to decorate outdoors as you would indoors. You can have beautifully designed replicas of famous paintings right in your own back yard.

These outdoor wall paintings can safely be hung outdoors for year round enjoyment. They have a look of stretched canvas and it has UV inks that are printed directly on to the aluminum. The artwork wraps around the sides giving the picture an amazing three dimensional quality. The reproduction quality is so precise it is almost impossible to tell it is not a real canvas. The surface coating has been scientifically tested to with stand the harshest weather conditions. The canvas can be smooth or faux finish texture. Aluminum is a lightweight metal with a bright silvery luster. It is strong and resistant to the elements which make it perfect for outdoor use.

\"wall Art\"

You can now be confidant decorating your decks, patios, pool areas and garden walls with outdoor wall art. It is resistant to fading, moisture, oxidation, peeling, freezing temperatures and UV rays. This is the perfect way to add character and color to your garden walls. It will add elegance and prestige of fine art to any outdoor setting.

Outdoor Wall Art - Bring the Gallery Outside

One nice feature is that it requires very little maintenance. If any dirt or dust accumulates just wash with mild soap and this can be hosed off with water. Most paintings come with mounting brackets and fasteners. It secures virtually to any outdoor surface including brick, stucco, wood, stone or siding.

Outdoor wall art allows you to create an open air gallery as large as your imagination will allow, while adding another dimension to your garden area. This decor brings the gift of wonder back into your life and your surroundings.

Finding the right piece of art can be a daunting task. Here are a few of examples you should look for to complete your style of decor. If the rest of your decor is of an antique design, look for romanticism or impressionism. For a more traditional outdoor wall art try vintage or retro art. For contemporary or modern you can select art deco, pop art or abstract. Whichever style you are certain to find a variety of colors, shapes and sizes to fulfill your needs.

By my pool area I have hung upon the walls a piece of art of a beach front scene. There are sea gulls flying around with the view of rushing waves. Whenever I am gazing at it I seem to be transported into total relaxation. Around my fence I have outdoor wall art of hummingbirds feeding, cardinals bathing and blue jays in flight. Last week I added a small picture of a fury mother and baby squirrel scampering up a tree with an acorn in the mom's mouth.

If you're seeking that special gift, this can also be your answer. I have a good friend that moved away and I had a piece of art custom made for her. From a photograph a company was able to replicate her family standing around her old house. To this day whenever we talk there is always a comment about that painting and how much it meant to her.

As you can see, your only limitation for this decor is your imagination. Become creative let loose and you will be inspired to keep adding more as your landscape becomes more unique and inspiring.

Top 5 Interior Decor Tips For How To Decorate A Large Living Space

In contrast to the smaller living rooms that many of us grew up with, great rooms are perhaps one of the most exciting innovations in modern home design. Their open floor plans not only offer flexibility, but also a more efficient use of space.

They also come with a few interior decorating challenges. Many great rooms, particularly those in larger homes, feel more like an empty warehouse than an alternative to the traditional living room.

\"Large Wall Art\"

While too much space is never a problem, filling that space can be a real challenge. The proportions of the room can be overwhelming and furnishings that look right at home in an apartment or smaller home can look minuscule in a great room.

Top 5 Interior Decor Tips For How To Decorate A Large Living Space

Some clever decorating tricks can help you warm up these larger rooms. Here are the top 5 tips on how to decorate a larger living space.

1. Settle on what the room is for, and then create living spaces around this.

Doing this will help you create either one space, or a 'series' of spaces to allow the room to fulfill this role. For example, if the room is to entertain, you can to create one or a few furniture groupings so guests can choose which setting to be in. If on the other hand, your room is for more than one function, you may want to create a space for each purpose. For instance, you may want to add a sofa and armchair grouping around a large screen television on one area of the room use the other area for more intimate gatherings.

2. Use large wall art to create a sense of atmosphere.

Large pieces of art such as paintings or wall art tapestries, are a unique way of creating a presence in any room including that large room. You feel as if you have walked into another world when surrounded by great works of art, as the wall art gives a focal point for the room and draws you into the picture. The entire feel and atmosphere of a room can be influenced by the use of large wall art.

3. Use pieces of furniture that will enhance a large room.

Great rooms will often require larger pieces of furniture than smaller living rooms. Use larger or wider sofas and armchairs, and coffee tables to fill the space. You can also use other 'feature' pieces of furniture such as a chest of drawers to fill an area next to a wall that require decorating. See which space needs filling in and then see which piece of furniture would suit that particular space.

4. You can be bold in your decorating ideas and scale.

Great rooms can benefit from expanses of color to make the space appear more intimate. You can compliment these with patterned curtains and soft furnishings to create a visual connection. You can use larger pieces of artwork, pottery or furniture than you would be able to, in a smaller area.

5. Try different arrangements of furniture.

When you have the space, try to arrange the decor and furniture in different ways. For example, try keeping the furniture away from the walls to create an intimate space in the center. You can experiment and arrange furniture in different positions to achieve both coziness and the freedom of enough open space, at the same time.

So there you go.

You now know the top 5 interior decor tips when it comes to decorating a large living space. By following these simple guidelines, you can create a great room that has the right balance of intimacy and open space for you. Take your time and use your imagination, and you'll achieve the interior decor feel that you're looking for.

Create a Romantic Bedroom With Wall Art - Decadent Accents

Even if your bedroom is already very nice, you would be amazed at how quickly you can improve on it just by adding some nice pieces of wall art. It's not hard to create a romantic bedroom with wall art. But you will want to do some careful planning to be sure you are happy with the results after you have purchased the wall art and hung it up in your bedroom.

To create a romantic look in your bedroom, you have a lot of options. One is to choose romantic colors. Raspberry and chocolate brown are examples of dark, rich colors that are very popular right now. They have decadent and luscious connotation of delicious romantic flavors. Cranberry red is another deep romantic color. Or maybe you want to go more country garden romantic. In that case it's pastels all the way. Pinks may be too feminine if you share your bedroom with a man, but pale greens and slate blues are more gender-neutral colors that often bring to mind romantic getaway spots like the tropics or the seaside. If you love lavenders, you can often sneak in some more feminine aspects of that as well without letting it take over the room.

\"wall Art\"

Of course, if your bedroom is all your own, there are really no limitations on what kinds of colors you may use. If you are a guy, you may find that deep blues, greens, or even a more modern color like black and white combination can set the mood just as well. So once you have thought about your colors, it is time to create a romantic bedroom with wall art. Decide if you want to get impressionist paintings or popular portraits. Again, if you want something like a country garden look, you will have tons of choices with prints like Monet's water lilies or Giverny garden paintings. But flowers don't have to antique looking to be romantic. They can be starkly modern as well. For example, an image of a single calla lily or stem of gladiola in a glass will be a striking contemporary flourish in a romantic bedroom.

Create a Romantic Bedroom With Wall Art - Decadent Accents

There really are no limits in your goal to create a romantic bedroom with wall art, but you will be more satisfied with the results if you spend some time thinking about what romance means to you and your partner, if you have one. If you design the room around your shared idea of romance, you will create a special place to spend time together and bring you closer together. If you are single, the décor you choose will speak volumes about your personality and romantic inclinations, so choose wisely.

How To Master The Art of Conversation

The art of conversation is a skill shared by most successful people. Good conversation promotes an image of self-confidence, intelligence, and wittiness.

People who always seem to rise to the top of their professions and are well respected by others who share the ability to converse with anybody in every situation.

Art

People who seem to speak effortlessly and efficiently with others are generally well liked and highly successful.

How To Master The Art of Conversation

If you need to improve your conversational skills, here are a few tips that can help you enhance your conversational skills and boost your image.

1. Always say what you think, not what you think others want you to say. Especially in a professional setting, learning to express your views and ideas in a positive, non-threatening manner will invite reactions and responses.

Effective leaders always say what they are thinking and express their ideas freely. Having the courage to speak your mind as well as listening openly to the views and ideas of others is a sure way to earn the respect and admiration of all those you encounter.

2. Listen carefully to what others are saying. People often interpret things said by others in a way that clouds their ability to hear what people are intending to say.

By giving your full attention to the speaker, you can hear what they intend for you to hear instead of what you want to hear.

The art of conversation includes the ability to listen to others as well as the ability to speak effectively.

3. Always assume that a speaker is saying exactly what they mean to say. Even if it seems unclear, try to find meaning and coherence to the words they are saying and give them the respect of hearing what they want you to hear.

In any conversation, the ability to give respect is just as important as receiving it. The art of conversation is a give and take between parties, not one speaker and one listener.

4. Any conversation can be broken down into three parts.

The first part is small talk. Small talk is dictated by social rules and includes polite greetings, inquiries about the well-being of others, etc.

Stage two is the end of the small talk and moving on to the purpose of the conversation such as business, the sharing of opinions and personal views.

Without the ability to express yourself efficiently, the conversation can easily slip back into small talk, lessening the chances of accomplishing the initial goal of the conversation.

The third part of a conversation is where the various ideas and views expressed can be merged into a satisfying end for all parties involved in the conversation.

The art of conversation is a learned skill that is common among successful, energetic people. If you are unable to effectively express yourself in any situation, you will likely find that you do not attract the attention and command the respect that is bestowed upon some others.

People who talk freely and easily with others usually find more professional and personal fulfillment than those who are introverted and silent.

If you want to improve your professional and social standing, learn to communicate efficiently and in a positive manner.

You will notice a dramatic difference in the way other people perceive you if you demonstrate self-confidence and project a friendly, informed image.

Fresco which means fresh in Italian, is a form of painting murals in earth tones are directly applied to wet plaster.

Art

The first fresco paintings have been dated as far back as 30,000 years ago. The earliest discoveries being of paintings done in the Chauvet cave located in France. More than 15,000 years ago frescoes were created in other caves in Lascaux, France and Altamira, Spain. These examples of early fresco paintings are brilliant testimony of the long history of this form of art. The early frescoes, painted on the limestone walls of the caves, contained remarkably expressive and realistic figures of horses, bison, bears, lions, mammoths, and rhinoceroses. These paintings continue to fascinate researchers and art historians even today.

Fresco Art - A Quick History

The technique of painting frescos on wet plaster evolved somewhere around 1500 BC. It is widely believed that this technique allows the artist more flexibility in the use and the placement of the frescoes for meeting more decorative goals. The earliest known examples of such frescoes are believed to have appeared around 1500 BC and can be found on the island of Crete in Greece.

The most famous of these early paintings, The Toreador, depicts a crowned ceremony in which the individuals jump over the backs of large bulls. While some similar frescoes were found in other places around the Mediterranean basin, in particular in Morocco, their origins are subject to speculation. Some art historians believe that fresco artists from Crete may have been sent to Morocco as part of a trade exchange, a possibility which raises to the fore the importance of this art form within the society of the times.

Frescoes were also painted in ancient Greece, but few of these paintings have survived. In Southern Italy, at Paestum, which was a Greek colony, a tomb containing of the frescoes dating back to 470 BC. These frescoes depicted scenes that indicate the life and society that was active at the time which was that of ancient Greece.

Discover Tuscan Metal Wall Art Decorating Ideas

Tuscan metal wall art is an easy and popular way to add a touch
of personality to your home decor. If you are into rustic, country,
French country, Mediterranean, Western, Victorian, Italian or Tuscan; metal wall
art is available to enhance any of these styles of home decor. Read on to discover
how to incorporate metal art accents into your home.

The wrought iron wall crown is in high demand, as it quickly and easily
classes up other wall art. This long, narrow piece of metal wall decor
can accent a framed wall art piece or add a new dimension to a large
wall tapestry. Another application that is very attractive, is to place it above
a wall grouping, to tie it all together. For example, you may have a
small tapestry with a wall clock and add the Tuscan metal wall decor over the pair. Or a metal
wall art crown can add a upscale flair to a grouping of family pictures.
Consider hanging metal wall art above your television, a large
doorway or above a picture window. The unique shape of the metal wall art crown
lends itself to some unique applications in your home decorating arrangements.

\"wall Art\"

Square, metal wall art pieces can be used in with a wall group or in
accent groups with 2 or more like metal decor pieces. Smaller, square
metal wall art pieces can be used on a small wall area just to add some dimension. Or
you may take 2, 3, or 4 coordinating pieces to create a wall grouping. Some-
thing fun and interesting to consider, is to hang some of the metal wall
art pieces at the corner in a diamond shape. If you have a nice size wall,
use a focus piece, such as a wall tapestry, large wall clock or framed art
and place 2 pieces of metal wall art on one side of the focus piece,
hanging one wrought iron piece square and stagger the 2nd wrought iron piece
and hang from the corner, in a diamond shape style. On the other side of
your focus piece, hang just one piece of wrought iron. This piece may be
of the same size as the 2 on the other side or larger, preferably a
rectangular shape metal wall art design. What a stunning, interesting
wall group. And it was all very easy and creates a homey but designer look.

Discover Tuscan Metal Wall Art Decorating Ideas

You just discovered one way to use a rectangular shaped metal wall art piece.
Obviously, this wall art shape can vary in size greatly. An average size Tuscan metal art piece
can hang alone on a wall. You may also make a metal grouping, using rectangular and square
shapes. Rectangular metal wall art is also attractive with floral arrangements,
as the floral wreath or swag will add some color and softness to the metal.
The popular wall pockets would be a great addition to accent a nice rectangular wall art piece.

Again, the wall pockets may be filled with floral for a splash of color and additional texture.
Another trendy look with the wrought iron would be wall sconces. A candle
sconce will add color and new shapes to the wall. One very interesting
idea with the rectangular metal wall art piece you might want to consider is
to hang at an angle. Hang at a pleasing angle over your tv console and
then place a vase on the tabletop. This adds a lot of interest and creativity.
Add one more splash, by scrunching up a table runner under the vase and
let the ends of the runner fall over the edges of the tv cabinet top. I like the idea of using
an interesting vase--maybe with nothing in it,--but also fun would
be a unique canister and tray set, an artsy bowl or a chunky candlestick or
2 or 3--in various heights. Let your imagination go. Just watch your proportions, so one accessory does
not overshadow the other pieces and all items should be of a size to compliment
the tv console.

Large Tuscan metal wall decor has found some great places in today's homes. Whether,
square, round or rectangular, oversized metal wall art pieces, are
great when used as the headboard for your bed, in a room with cathedral
ceilings and on the large wall along your open stairway. The large metal
wall art piece can easily be used alone. But you may want to add a little
something more for added texture, dimension and color. Plus, if your wall is
huge, you can expand the look with a few choice accessory pieces. The 3
accessories that could compliment your large metal art would be candle
wall sconces, wall mirrors or wall pockets. Just remember, that your large
metal wall art will require large accessories. Large, unique wall sconces or
plushly filled wall pockets would be fabulous to add additional texture, color and
dimension. Another thought, if you employ either of these enhancements,
keep the designer look going, by hanging at staggered levels on either side
of your metal wall art. Or you may hang a long, slender mirror and a sconce or
wall pocket along just one side of your metal wall art. One of the keys here,
is that odd number of items are much easier and more pleasing to the eye
in an arrangement.

The style of metal wall art will determine what style of decor it will work best with.
Tuscan, Italian and French style home decor are really enhanced with an aged patina, with
a chunkier, rough look. Some of the most popular, trendy metal wall art is accented with leaf motifs,
and twiggy branch looks--these pieces are great with the Italian, and Country looks.

Some of the Country French decor may demand a lighter color metal
with more intricate design. Country or Nautical decor begs for a simple, antiqued look.
You may want to find some design details that emphasis these looks, such as a rope look,
nautical shapes, seashell motifs or a rivet bolt accent on the metal wall art. The right
metal wall decor piece may be a great accent in a softer, Victorian style room if you
look for more detail, such as curls, scrolls and a lighter weight feel. Keep the piece from
being too chunky.

Loft Decorating Ideas - Abstract Canvas Wall Art And Minimalist Decor

Staying in a one level studio loft is a popular way to live in the big city. It is the perfect example of contemporary living in urban style. Typically, lofts consist of one big open living space with huge windows overlooking the city. Usually ceilings are high and there are no enclosures except for the bathroom.

The open concept and wall-less interiors give the home owner the perfect chance to decorate the space the way he wants to. The little amenities offered by city lofts such as high ceilings and big windows provides the right opportunity to decorate the place in a modern way.

\"wall Art\"

It is exciting to decorate an empty loft with furniture and canvas wall art. It is something like an artist about to start a painting from a blank canvas. You can implement all your decorating ideas without any restrictions or limitations. Before you start buying stuff to furnish your loft, consider some designing tips first.

Loft Decorating Ideas - Abstract Canvas Wall Art And Minimalist Decor

Analyze your space and decide if you want to keep the open floor plan or separate rooms with walls. You can still divide the space with invisible partitions to designate the living room, dining room and the sleeping areas. Spend sometime in the loft to study where you want to assign each room.

Decide which part of the home you want to place next to the large windows with the view. If you entertain a lot, then it might be an ideal place for your living room and dining room. You might want to position your bedroom away from light that comes through those large windows.

You can use solid walls to divide the space or place bookshelves and screens to divide the room. Standing shelves and screens can maintain that open concept and make the space look bigger. Position your furniture to create invisible partitions.

You can also use area rugs and canvas wall art grouping to designate rooms. For the living room, you can hang a canvas art set of a landscape. For the dining area, you can hang a single large canvas depicting food or wine. For your sleeping area, maybe a sunset painting would be suitable.

Another decorating factor to think about is wall paint. If you want to maintain an open spacious feeling, choose light colors for your walls with an even lighter shade for your ceiling. Use darker colors for your sleeping area to give it a more intimate ambiance. Darker ceiling paint will bring the ceiling lower to make the space feel more cozy.

Decide on your general design concept. Will you be comfortable living in an ultra modern and minimalist setting? Another option is contemporary style which is also very suitable for lofts. Your canvas wall art should also match with your design theme.

So, if you want to have minimalist furniture, hang abstract canvas pieces. You can also decorate in contemporary style which is also suitable for loft living. Both styles require simple and functional furnishings that are ideal for urban living.

Quirky Furniture Made From Doors

It can be challenging to find just the right type of furniture for an eclectic home. In many cases, you may end up making your own furniture from salvaged wood or other materials. A door is often overlooked when choosing salvage materials, but it works exceptionally well when creating quirky furniture. With a handsaw and some nails, you can transform an old door into a new masterpiece.

Dining Room Table
Have you ever wanted a long table, but just could not afford one? Instead of lamenting, salvage an old door and turn it into your new dining room table. Start by sanding the door and then staining or repainting it. Screw in table legs that are pre-made and can be found at most large home improvement stores. A piece of glass that has been cut to size can be placed on the top of the door, and viola! You have an almost instant table for a fraction of the cost.

\"wall Art\"

Headboard
You may have seen headboards made from upholstered plywood and such, but doors also make excellent backdrops for beds. Stand two narrow doors side-by-side to create a tall, vertical look, or position a door on its side across the head of the bed. A shiny, new finish of paint or stain can be added, or you might opt to leave it looking shabby and chic for cottage style appeal.

Quirky Furniture Made From Doors

Desks
Much like tables, desks can be made from old doors. Start by measuring the length needed and cutting the door to size. Use the extra, cut pieces of wood to create a pull-out drawer for a computer keyboard or a shelf along the back of the desk. If the door's surface is uneven, you may want to put a sheet of glass or Plexi-glass over it to create a smooth work surface.

Bookshelf
Transform that old door into a bookshelf by adding two narrower doors to either side of it, and then nailing some wooden shelves in place. The door's sturdiness makes it an excellent choice for providing support and stability to the shelf. The trick is to be sure that the shelves are securely fastened and anchored to the back door, as well as the side doors.

Storage Bins
Measure out the panels and start cutting that old door up into pieces. With four sides and a bottom, the door can become a strong, sturdy storage bin to hold magazines, gardening supplies, or just about anything else you need to store. If you are planning on using it for items that might be wet, put a few coats of shellac on the wood to protect it. You may even want to put a plastic liner in the bin to prevent the wood from warping.

There are many different types of quirky furniture pieces that you can create from old doors. The only limitation is your imagination. With some clever thinking and a few tools, your new piece of furniture can be created from an old, architectural gem.

Six Amazing Hallway Decor Ideas

Hallways are often overlooked when decorating a home. Homeowners are so focused on designing beautiful rooms, that the hallways wind up with a coat of paint and perhaps a picture or two. To have a completely decorated home, the lack of hallway decor will simply not do. Say goodbye to boring hallways forever with these six amazing hallway decor ideas that will have guests linger in the halls.

Metal Wall Art
Metal wall art is the quickest way to turn a dull drum hallway into an amazing passageway. Metal wall art pieces are constructed from a variety of metals, including copper and brass. They are available in a wide array of shapes and designs. Choose a piece that matches the rest of the home's decor, while still offering interest and design that commands attention.

\"wall Art\"

Face It
Photographs of family members are doorways to the home's soul. They show the faces of those who live in the home during tender, excited and happy moments. Creating a framed wall collage of black and white photos of family members is a stunning way to create a personal hallway decor. Choose pictures that show expression. There should be an equal number of photos for each family member's face, especially if there are children in the family, to create a balanced look and feel to the collage.

Six Amazing Hallway Decor Ideas

Hanging Vases
Wall vases come in a variety of stunning shapes and sizes. They can be crafted from blown glass, or hammered out of tin. When selecting hanging wall vases, choose varieties that coordinate with the home's decor, but that are also practical for everyday use. Besides the use of the wall vases themselves, the flowers that you place inside them make for an amazing hallway display of color and life. If maintaining fresh cut flowers is too overwhelming, opt for realistic looking silk flowers instead.

Tick-Tock
Modern hallways will delight in being decorated with large, black frame clocks along the length of the wall. Hang a line of clocks all at the same height down the hallway. Set each clock to a different time from places around the world. Place a small placard beneath each clock to show where in the world that time currently is. If you have traveled, choose cities or countries near to your heart to make the decor even more personal. This unusual, and timely, look will keep people lingering in the hallway as they move around the home.

Vinyl Decals
Decals are not just for cars these days. Vinyl art is quickly becoming one of the most sought after home decor ideas and with good reason. It is relatively inexpensive, can be applied, removed and re-applied with no residue, and it comes in many different styles and shapes. Choose a word or phrase that has personal meaning or a design that ties in with the rest of the home's decor for a unified look.

Say What?
Nothing is more personal than a verse or saying that has special meaning to the family members in the home. Stencil a phrase along the length of the wall to create a beautiful look that will remind guests and family members about the values of those who live within the walls of the home. Stenciled phrases are a personal, but inexpensive way to share that with those who travel the length of the hallway.

Whatever decor is selected for the hallway, be sure to take time planning and creating the look. Use a level to ensure straight lines and a tape measure to make sure that nails and hooks are where they need to be.

Bedroom Style Makeovers - Make a Small Room Seem Larger

Every bedroom, regardless of it's size, should be a personal sanctuary that invites relaxation and reconnection. It should be warm and serene, even if storage space and square footage is at a premium. Here are style solutions for a smaller bedroom that will help you create the tranquil space you crave.

You First Priority: Remove Clutter

\"Large Wall Art\"

While furniture placement, wall color and wall décor can all be used to enhance the appearance of a small space, there is no amount of decorating that will make a cluttered space look good. Therefore your first priority is to de-clutter and organize. Donate or recycle items you no longer use, from clothing to furniture and accessories. Banish office and work related paraphernalia from your bedroom and organize personal papers and effects in a file box that can be stored in the closet, under the bed, or another part of the house.

Wall Colors & Coverings

Light neutrals and pastels will make a space feel larger. Add contrast and texture with bedding and window fabric choices, as well as toss pillows and throws for the bed or a side chair. Using a slightly deeper shade on any wall will make it a focal point. This technique can be used for the wall behind the headboard or a wall where you plan to create a grouping of wall art. When choosing a focal wall to highlight the headboard first be sure that location is the best option for placement of the bed. (See furniture placement below). If you want to add texture on wall without straying from the color of other walls, try a textured grass cloth in the same hue, or do the entire room in a neutral grass cloth that will add interest without adding darkness.

Furniture Placement

Placement of the bed is an important consideration when setting up the bedroom. The wall opposite the entry door is ideal if the space is large enough. Consider that the bed does not have to be centered on this wall; the room may seem more spacious with the bed off center and a chair or small dresser on one side with a night stand on the other. Diagonal placement is another option.

Add Architectural Interest with Easy-to-Make Faux Wood Panels

If you're tired of flat boring walls, create stretch canvas panels to add architectural interest to your focal wall. Stretch the canvas over simple wood frames and mount them one above the other from ceiling to floor on both ends of the headboard, using painter's tape to create a perfectly straight guide line. If they do not fit perfectly on the wall space, use side tables to cover the gap at the bottom or paint the wall space in the same color as the canvases.

The stretch canvases will make the ceilings look higher and add dimension. Paint them in a rich accent, such as chocolate brown against taupe walls, then repeat the color as part of color scheme in bedding, bed accessories, and window treatments.

Bold-Scaled Bedding and Bedside Accessories

Large scale patterns in bold bright colors will make the room seem larger. Choose a bedspread or comforter with a bright bold print that includes your wall color and the color of your stretch canvases, but don't limit yourself to those colors. Large scale geometrics or modern graphic paisleys and florals accented with teals, poppy and mustard would give a tan/brown background a rich and dramatic contrast. Echo the bright accents in your choices of lamp bases and shade, table top accessories, toss pillows and throws that will draw the focus away from the smaller scale of the room.

Perfectly Proportioned Wall Accents

o Don't use one large wall hanging in a small room, or it will seem to suck up all the space. Use a grouping of smaller related pieces to fill a space on a wall opposite or adjoining the bed wall, or choose one appropriately sized-piece that doesn't overwhelm the space or compete with the focal wall.

o Wall mirrors will create the illusion of spaciousness in a small room. Placing a wall mirror directly opposite a window will make the room seem brighter and larger; or try a wall mirror between two windows on the same wall.

Interior Decorating Ideas - Decorating Your Clinic with Wall Art

Have you ever been at the clinic, waiting for your turn to see the doctor, and all you see on the walls around you are posters on cancer prevention, reminders for you to do your annual medical checkups, dealing with rheumatism in old age, diabetes... the list goes on.

All around us, we're flooded with uncomfortable images and messages that remind us that we really need to take good care of our health. Although these posters are there for a reason - to inform and educate, they certainly add an unwelcome addition because they inject an element of fear into all of us. Here we are, waiting to see the doctor, worried sick that our illness could get worse, and all we see in front of us are images and information about illnesses and disease. We really don't need these at this time. Tell us these things when we're well, not when we're sick.

\"wall Art\"

Having been a patient myself (and who hasn't), the waiting area at the doctor's office is quite a stressful place to be. As you're waiting for your turn to see the doctor, your mind is full of apprehension and uncertainty as to what the diagnosis might be. The last thing you want is to be bombarded with images and media detailing out a plethora of possible ailments you could be diagnosed with. It just adds to the stress.

Interior Decorating Ideas - Decorating Your Clinic with Wall Art

Strip this entire media off the walls, I say. Remove every shred of evidence that this place is a clinic. Patients don't need reminders as to why they're there. Put in its place decorative art work. Surround the walls with art and beauty. Put some framed pictures on the assistant's counter top. Having a beautiful piece of art to look at will certainly make your wait a lot more pleasant and take your thoughts away from all things unpleasant. Art may also accelerate the healing process. This is the reason why some hospitals have beautiful art hung on its walls. This is what the patient really needs.

What kind of art to display, you might ask. Well, apart from movie or music posters, because they hardly seem appropriate, almost any other kind of art will do. A good choice would be abstract art. Pick something that has soft, pastel colors that calms the mind when looked upon. Abstract, or contemporary art, doesn't represent anything in its true form, but rather it is an abstract representation of it. Much of it is left for the user to interpret what it's all about. This will certainly keep the patients busy as they wait their turn. Abstract art will give the place a nice contemporary feel and make it seem less like a clinic and more like an art gallery.

There are many choices of abstract art to choose from. Prints of abstract flowers will add a nice, warm touch to the office. What about black and white abstracts? This will create an interesting contrast with the colors around it. You could also display abstract art of other genres, like collages, geometric abstracts, abstract landscapes and abstract figures, among others. The choices are plentiful. If you're not into contemporary art, why not use pictures of animals? A picture of a cute kitten or puppy can do wonders to encourage healing and comfort. If you can't keep a real pet in the doctor's office, then display a picture of one. The effect may not be the same, but it certainly is nice to look at and takes a great deal of stress off the patient.

Wild Bird Window Clings

Stained glass windows and window panes can be quite costly, but it is possible to enjoy the beauty of stained glass in the kitchen without the expense of real stained glass. When decorating a kitchen in a bird theme, search for hand-painted window clings. They are available in all varieties, and chances are you will find your favorite backyard birds in the form of high-quality window clings that will adhere to windows until you are ready to take them off. Just like high-quality stained glass, they will let the light shine in, but they will beautifully decorate kitchen windows while providing an extra measure of privacy.

Decorate with Fan Pulls

The fan pulls that typically come with ceiling fans are ordinary, and many people remove the pulls that come with fans and replace them with decorative varieties. When decorating a kitchen with a bird theme, search for cast resin bird ornaments meant for holiday decorating. Ornaments make fantastic fan pulls, and they are generally less expensive than designer pulls meant especially for fans. Remove the pull from the existing chain, and tie on a realistic miniature cast resin bird. It will look far better than a plain pull, and it will add considerable beauty to the kitchen theme.

Metal Wall Decor

One of the easiest and most impressive ways to decorate in a bird theme is with beautiful wall decor. A bare kitchen wall can be greatly embellished with fine metal wall art that is affordable and highly stylish. Metal wall decor is available in virtually every theme, and those who love birds will find a number of options that include beautiful wild birds of many different varieties. Create a focal point on an empty kitchen wall by centering metal wall decor with a bird theme, and surround it with a set of stylish candle wall sconces and candles that coordinate well with the kitchen. Light the candles for ambient dinners, and create a relaxing atmosphere filled with the beauty of wild birds and flickering candlelight.

How To Hang Canvas Wall Art In Groups To Create a Single Artwork On A Large Wall

Canvas wall art can be hung in a group above your sofa, in a long dining room, in a corridor, staircase, or over a wide queen or king sized bed. It is a great way to decorate a large wall by using several pieces of smaller canvas to create one large artwork.

Get a group of small paintings if various sizes with similar characteristics like similar colors; a single theme like portraits, landscapes or seascapes; same frames or mat colors. You will need to have several artworks in a group to have common characteristics for them to look good together.

\"wall Art\"

So if you have several pieces of flower canvas, hang them together in a group. Make sure that the total size of the group will be suitable for your wall space. A good way to determine this is to arrange the pieces on the floor next to the wall you plan to hang them on.

How To Hang Canvas Wall Art In Groups To Create a Single Artwork On A Large Wall

On the floor, you can also set the arrangement and play around where you will place each canvas. From there, you can already see if the arrangement will look balanced. Typically a large canvas piece will serve as your base painting where you can place smaller pieces above or beside the large canvas.

The large canvas at the bottom will keep your artwork grounded and balanced. Set the biggest painting on the floor and gradually add smaller pieces above it or to its left or right side. If you are forming a squarish group, the largest canvas will look good in one corner at the bottom.

Once you have grouped together the paintings on the floor, you can also see if the total size will be too small or too big for the wall next to it. Don't forget to consider the furniture size too when arranging canvas art sets. Your grouping should not be wider than your couch or headboard.

Arrange each canvas 1-1/2 to 2 inches apart. For larger walls and canvas pieces, you can hang each canvas 3 inches apart. Don't make a single piece stray too far away that it looks isolated from the group. General rule is, if it looks funny then it is probably not balanced and needs to be rearranged.

You can use small pieces of individual paintings or canvas art sets to form a group of canvas wall art. Canvas art sets can come in synchronized or similar sized canvas or as offset canvas pieces in different canvas sizes.

There is a lever specifically made to help you hang paintings in groups consisting of different sized canvas. It will make it easier for you to pin point where to bore holes on your wall for the nails or hanging device. Some hanging kits can also be adjusted to raise or lower the canvas to create that perfectly balanced grouping.
